Mowing the lawn

"Ajdin, if you are looking for me, I will be outside mowing the lawn," Uncle Tibbs said.  He went outside.

Mowing the lawn, I thought.  I had never seen a bear mow the lawn before.  I went outside to take a look.

The lawnmower whizzed and whirred.

"NOTHING BEATS DOING YARD WORK WITH YOUR OWN TWO PAWS!" Uncle Tibbs yelled over the sound of the mower.  He steered the mower up and down the hill.

"UNCLE TIBBS, YOU MISSED A SPOT!" I pointed out.

"THANKS AJDIN!" he yelled back.  He turned the mower around and went over a tall grassy patch.

Apparently I am beary good at supervising.

While Uncle Tibbs put the mower away, I spotted two bunny rabbits in the yard.  They stared at me for a long time.  I waved hello at them.  I guess they had never seen two bears mow the lawn before.

"Thanks for your help today, Ajdin," Uncle Tibbs said.  "Now let's take a break and enjoy the sunset."

There's nothing like the smell of freshly cut grass!

Arts and crafts: Bee magnet and giveaway

Hello!  I have been beary busy working on some fun projects lately, and today I am going to show you how to make a bee magnet.  This is a simple but fun craft to make if you are bored.

Lay out all your items on a table.  These are the materials I am using:

  • a hot glue gun
  • small magnet
  • small, black wood square cutout or heavy cardboard
  • gold Sharpie
  • bee decorations (use your imagination here)

Decorate the front of the wood cutout however you want.  Be beary creative here.  You can use glitter or stickers.  Remember, there are no mistakes.  The last step is to glue the magnet to the back of the cutout.  You may want to ask an adult bear or adult non-bear for help with the hot glue gun.  This is me hard at work...

Ta-dah!  The finished magnet.

These magnets are great for posting pictures and shopping lists on your refrigerator.  Now, for an added treat, I will be giving one of these magnets away - just be the first to leave a comment below.  Enjoy!

Bowling

I went to the bowling alley for the first time today and played some games against a formidable opponent... Uncle Tibbs.

First things first.  I got some bowling shoes from the man at the counter.

Next, I chose a shiny, red bowling ball.  I have a feeling that this is a lucky ball.  What do you think?

But before we can start playing, I have to type in our names into the computer.

Great, now we can play.  I am up first.  The pins look far away, don't they?  It seems pretty far for a little bear and this ball sure seems heavy.  But I am determined and take my first throw.

Oops!  My first ball went straight into the gutter.  That's OK.  I am still warming up.  You haven't seen anything yet.

Uncle Tibbs got a spare on his turn.  Hmm, he's pretty good.

Maybe I need some help with gutter rails and a bowling ramp...

Nah, that feels a bit like cheating.  Maybe I will just put all of my effort into it.  ERGHHH!  I give the ball everything I have.  Look at that dedication.

I am rewarded with a spare!

Okay, this is my last throw.  It had better be a good one...

...STRIKE!

It was a beary close game but I won by just a few points.

"I was a little bit off my game tonight," Uncle Tibbs said.  "You deserved the win!  I hope we can have a rematch."

Bowling is fun!  Do you like to bowl?

Bear-B-Q

"Ajdin," Uncle Tibbs said, "let's have a Bear-B-Q."

"Umm, what do you mean by that, Uncle Tibbs?" I asked.  I didn't like the sound of that.

"That is simply when bears have a barbeque," he explained.  I sighed in relief.  He put on his apron.

"I'm going to fire up the grill," he said.  "Maybe you can make some of that honey sauce to go on the chicken."

He flipped over the chicken and the sausages.  Mmm!  It sure smelled good.  (I recommend that only adult bears or adult non-bears use the grill.)

Then I helped make some salad and then we were ready to eat!  Everything was beary delicious.  Now that the weather is getting warmer, that means we have more bear-B-Qs to look forward to.

Happy Mother's Day

Today is Mother's Day.  I think all moms, bear or non-bear, are beary special.  Remember to take the time to thank your mom today.  You should thank your mom everyday, in fact, because they are really that special.

I made a card for my mom with some flowers on it.

On the inside, I wasn't sure what to say so I kept it simple.

Then my mom asked me to pick out some Mother's Day balloons for her mom.  We will be delivering them ourselves today.

"Ajdin, don't fly away!" Uncle Tibbs said, as I floated by on a balloon.

To all mothers out there, Happy Mother's Day!

Bear claw

There is an upside to getting stung by bees, that's for sure.  My mom has been giving me the beary special treatment.  (I am fully recovered from the sting but it doesn't hurt to garner a little sympathy now and then, right?)  She brought home another special snack for me.

I wonder what's inside.  Something smells good...

Ah, they call these things bear claws, though I don't think it looks anything like mine.  It sure was tasty, though!  Have you had a bear claw pastry before?

Salmon jerky

Uncle Tibbs and I were watching a little TV when my mom surprised us with a snack.  Salmon jerky!

"Oooh!" we both exclaimed.  We had never seen salmon jerky before.  I wasted no time opening the pouch and dug right in.

"Ahem, I would like some too, Ajdin," Uncle Tibbs said.  We both sampled some of the jerky and it was beary delicious!

Here is a closeup of the jerky.

My mom tried some and did not like it at all.  I guess that means more for us!  Have you tried salmon jerky before?

A beary bad day.

Today was a beary bad day.

"Ajdin, where are you?" Uncle Tibbs asked.  "Oh, there you are.  I was looking for you.  Hey, Ajdin... are you crying?"

"NO.  NO, I AM NOT CRYING," I said, wiping away some bear tears.  "I am a big bear and I do NOT CRY."

"What's wrong?" Uncle Tibbs asked.  He picked me up in one scoop with his big paw.

"I was looking for some honey today in the woods and I got stung by some bees!" I sobbed.  "There were so many of them.  I got stung and had to run away empty pawed.  It was so embarrassing."

"Hmm, stung by bees, eh?" Uncle Tibbs said.  "That's happened to me lots of times before.  Sure, we bears have fur but it still hurts sometimes, doesn't it?"

"Yes, beary much," I said.  "I don't want to go back to that place.  There were SO many bees there, Uncle Tibbs, SO many.  I had never seen so many bees before."

"So many bees, huh?" he asked, as he pulled out a box of Band-Aids.  "You know, Ajdin, when there are lots of bees, that usually means there's a lot of honey.  Now you say there were SO many bees.  There must have been SO much honey there.  I bet you were beary close, and the bees didn't want you to find it."

"Really?" I asked.

"Yup, that's how it usually works," he said.  "Those bees see a bear coming and then they all gang up on him and try to stop him from finding the beehive.  When he's really close, that's when the bees really start to attack."  He put a Band-Aid on my head, then continued.

"Back in the day, I entered a honey hunting competition and I was in a similar situation.  There were a few of us bears looking in the same spot when all of sudden, a massive swarm of bees came at us from out of nowhere."

"Wow, what did you do?" I asked, intrigued.

"The other bears gave up after a few minutes and went away, but I kept on looking around.  Then I saw it.  Inside a tree hollow was the BIGGEST BEEHIVE I had ever seen.  Yep, I took home first prize that day!  Getting stung isn't pleasant, that's for sure, but just think of all that honey that's coming your way."  Uncle Tibbs grinned.

"Hmm," I said.  "That is beary interesting.  Maybe when life gives you bees, make honey?"

"That sounds about right, Ajdin, some good advice for bears and non-bears.  Here, how about a spoonful of honey to cheer you up?  Then, we'll work on our plan to find this big beehive of yours!"
